Error 629
The cause of this error is "random" but usually caused by incorrect dial up
settings. Double check that TCP/IP is installed in control panel -> network, and that your password is
correct.
Error 630
Your modem is not configured correctly. See description for error 633.
Error 633
Remove and re-install the modem driver. If this does not work, find the
telephon.ini file, and rename to telephon.bak. Restart the computer.
Error 640
Unable to negotiate modem connection. This error is commonly caused by noisy
phone lines, and your modem being unable to drop it's speed to suit line conditions. Try reducing your
connection speed.
Error 645
Unable to run dial up networking. Dial
up networking is not installed correctly, some components are missing or
damaged. Reinstall dial up networking. If this does not work
correctly the following files may be missing or damaged: winsock.dll,
wsock32.dll. You may need to extract these files from the original
Windows media manually.
Error 650
Treat as error 645.
Error 659
The media.ini file refers to an unknown device.
One or more of the dial up networking files is corrupt or missing.
Reinstall dial up networking.
Error 676
The line is busy. Check that the phone
number is correct. Try to turn off dialling rules (or turn off "use
area code and country code"), and try again.
Error 678
The number is not answering. Check that
the phone number is correct, and that dialling rules are not putting a 0
or such in front of the number. Try putting 3 commas in front of the
number, and a comma in between each number. This will slow down
the dialling, which may need to be done on some older exchanges.
Error 680
No dial tone. Try putting 1-3 commas
in front of the phone number. Check that a number does not have to
be dialed to get an external line. Check that the phone line is connected
to the "line" socket on the modem. Check that the cord between the
wall socket and the modem works.
Error 691
Can not establish a dial up networking connection.
Check your username/password. Check that the dial up connection
is not using a dial in script.
Error 692
Hardware failure in port or attached device.
Check that the modem is turned on and installed correctly. Try restarting
the computer. If the error has started after a recent storm, the modem
and/or COM port may have been fried.
Error 718
Can not establish a dial up networking connection.
Check your username/password. Check that the dial up connection
is not using a dial in script.
Error 720
Dial up networking could not negotiate a compatible
set of network protocols. Check that TCP/IP is installed. Check
that the dial up networking connection does not have a dial in script
associated with it. Check that control panel -> network only has one
dial up adapter, and one set of TCP/IP, or one set of TCP/IP per device.
If all of the above fails, reinstall TCP/IP and re-create the dial up networking
connection.
Error 731
Unable to establish a dial up networking connection
- protocol not configured. Check that TCP/IP is installed, as per
error 720.
Error 745
An essential file is missing. Reinstall
dial up networking.
Error 749
The Connection Manager phone number
was not saved correctly. If using the Connection Manager software,
re-enter the phone number, by either picking from the address book, or
manually typing the number in.
